The boards of directors of Liberbank and Banco de Castilla-La Mancha approved last February their merger by means of the absorption of the latter by the bank resulting from the merger of CajAstur, Caja de Cantabria and Caja Extremadura, a transaction which was approved by Liberbank’s shareholders’ meeting in March and which, after the required administrative authorizations, was filed at the Mercantile Registry on October 1.
After the segregation in 2011 of the financial business of Cajastur in favor of Effibank -then Liberbank-, Liberbank itself became the holder of 75% of the share capital of BCLM and currently holds the ownership of all the shares of BCLM, since the CCM Banking Foundation did not make use of its pre-emptive subscription right in the recent process of reduction and subsequent capital increase of BCLM.

On February 6, 2018, the boards of directors of Liberbank and Banco Castilla-La Mancha approved their merger through the absorption of the latter by the former.[2] On October 9, 2018, the deed of merger by absorption of Banco Castilla-La Mancha by Liberbank was registered in the Commercial Registry. The branches will keep their sign for the time being, although it is foreseen that it will disappear.[3][4] On September 30, 2010, it began to be sold to Liberbank.
On September 30, 2010, the new entity,[8] born from the previous operation, began to operate under the name Banco Castilla-La Mancha, although maintaining the commercial brand CCM. On the same day, the transformation of the Obra Social of the bank gave rise to the Fundación Caja Castilla-La Mancha. This foundation is the one that assumed the task of contributing to the social, welfare, cultural, educational and environmental development of Castilla-La Mancha that had said social work.[9] This foundation received 25% of the capital of Banco Castilla-La Mancha.
On May 23, 2011, Effibank was incorporated as a bank of the SIP of Grupo Cajastur, Caja de Extremadura and Caja Cantabria. As of July 19, 2011, Effibank operates under the Liberbank brand name.[10] Subsequently, Effibank’s corporate name (Effibank, S.A.) was also replaced and became Liberbank, S.A.[11] As a consequence of all of the above, Banco Castilla-La Mancha, S.A. became a subsidiary of Liberbank, S.A.
