“Libertad” fue su lema durante toda la campaña electoral, ya que la presidenta regional defendió su decisión de mantener abiertos los bares, restaurantes y otros negocios de Madrid en los últimos meses siempre que fuera posible, a menudo desafiando las recomendaciones del Ministerio de Sanidad.
Este enfoque de la pandemia ha hecho que las tasas de infección en Madrid superen a las de la mayoría de las regiones -actualmente es la segunda más alta, por detrás del País Vasco- y también ha enfrentado a Ayuso con el Gobierno central de izquierdas.
Escándalos de corrupciónEl PP, que gobierna Madrid desde 1995, espera que este resultado marque un giro más amplio tras varios años en los que se ha visto salpicado por escándalos de corrupción y ha sufrido una serie de duras derrotas electorales.
Ayuso ha convocado estas elecciones anticipadas tan sólo dos años después de las últimas, por el supuesto temor a que su socio de coalición, el partido de centro-derecha Ciudadanos, se planteara apoyar una moción de censura contra ella. Por tanto, habrá otras elecciones en 2023.
