The Agrupación de Tráfico is the unit of the Guardia Civil specialized and specifically designed, prepared and organized for the exercise of the functions assigned to the State, through the Ministry of Interior, in matters of traffic, transport and road safety. Its specific mission is the surveillance, regulation, assistance, prevention and control of traffic and transport, and road safety mainly on interurban roads.
Already in 1933, the Republican government had created the Road Patrol Corps,[2] with the mission of monitoring roads.[3] After the end of the Civil War, Franco’s regime dissolved this corps and its competences were taken over by the Armed Police and Traffic Corps,[4] which absorbed the former road patrolmen.[5] The new Corps was created in 1933.
